About Us
Nemo Apps is dedicated to creating innovative apps and tools for learning languages.
“Nemo” comes from the English/Greek word “mnemonic” — an aid that helps memorize something.
Our story so far
You can say this all began when our founder Mike was a high school student, and programmed and sold “HyperCard” apps for learning English and Spanish on the original “Macintosh” computers. Back then, the apps came on 3.5 inch floppy disks sent through the mail, sometimes to customers on the other side of the world.
Twenty years later, when the iPhone came along, it was clear it would be a wonderful new platform for learning languages in this way (and the App Store a quicker way to get the app!) So Mike started Nemo Apps in 2011 to bring new technology to an old idea.
Since then, we’ve worked with more than a hundred talented translators and voice artists around the world to offer more languages. And the apps can do so much more now than in the early days. We recently launched LingoPix, which focuses on visual language learning.
Thank you for more than 10 years of support! We are a private, self-funded company and make all our money through sales and subscriptions of our apps. So we don’t track you and we’ve never wanted or needed to sell your personal information. We just hope you like and learn from our apps.
Nemo Apps is based in Silicon Valley, California.
